Trigger Control at Distance

Trigger Control at Distance

Dry-Fire · At Home

Verified clear. Balance a spent case on the front sight or slide and press ten times without dropping it. If you are shooting a red dot, watch that the dot stays still through the press and the reset.

Live-Fire · At the Range

Twenty rounds slow fire at 15 yards on the Bull, scored. Distance exposes trigger problems that 5 yards hides. Write the score down.

Service Pistol

Full-size guns make this easier, so hold the standard higher.

Concealed Carry

Small guns with short triggers are harder at this distance. That is the point of shooting it.

Carbine

Move to 100 yards from a supported position if your range allows.

Optional Standard

AUX (when ready): all twenty rounds inside the scoring ring at 15 yards.

Mind

Distance does not create errors. It reveals the ones that were already there.

Your Daily Callout — By Archetype

The Initiator Yours

Fifteen yards will not let you get away with a fast, sloppy press.

The Scout Yours

Call each shot before you look at the target, then check whether you were right.

The Guardian Yours

The ability to make a precise shot is the ability to solve a problem without endangering someone behind it.

The Strategist Yours

Track the score every time you shoot this drill and you will see the trend within a month.

Coach's Note

Layer: shoot the last five rounds from kneeling.

Standards & Safety
The Four Rules — Every Rep, No Exceptions
  1. Treat every firearm as if it is loaded — always, no matter what you think you know.
  2. Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you have decided to fire.
  4. Be sure of your target — and everything beyond it.

Dry-fire: no ammunition in the room. Verify the firearm is clear — twice. Use a safe backstop. When you finish, say it out loud: “Dry fire is over.”
