Reloads You Can Do in the Dark

Reloads You Can Do in the Dark

Dry-Fire · At Home

Verified clear, empty magazines. Fifteen emergency reloads with the gun held high in your workspace and your eyes on the room rather than the magazine well. Every rep ends back on a card.

Live-Fire · At the Range

Five strings at 7 yards: two rounds on card A, slide locks, reload, two rounds on card B. Load your magazines two and two to force the lock-back. The reload is not finished until the next shot hits.

Service Pistol

Index your magazine pouches by feel. If you have to look for them, the placement is wrong.

Concealed Carry

Reload from wherever your spare actually rides, including a pocket if that is the honest answer.

Carbine

Carbine version: bolt locks, magazine from the pouch, support hand hits the bolt release, back on target.

Optional Standard

AUX (when ready): slide-lock reload to a hit in under three seconds.

Mind

Decide your two exits in any room before you look at the menu.

Your Daily Callout — By Archetype

The Initiator Yours

A fast reload that ends in a miss did not happen. The hit is the rep.

The Scout Yours

Your eyes stay on the room. Your hands already know where the magazine is.

The Guardian Yours

An empty gun with people behind you is the exact scenario this drill exists for.

The Strategist Yours

Stage your magazines identically every session and the speed comes for free.

Coach's Note

Layer: one-handed emergency reload, dry and slow.

Standards & Safety
The Four Rules — Every Rep, No Exceptions
  1. Treat every firearm as if it is loaded — always, no matter what you think you know.
  2. Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you have decided to fire.
  4. Be sure of your target — and everything beyond it.

Dry-fire: no ammunition in the room. Verify the firearm is clear — twice. Use a safe backstop. When you finish, say it out loud: “Dry fire is over.”
