The Flashlight and the Gun

The Flashlight and the Gun

Dry-Fire · At Home

Verified clear, lights off. Fifteen reps of a handheld light technique with the gun, alternating between searching with the light away from the gun and shooting with them together. Pick one technique and stay with it.

Live-Fire · At the Range

Fifteen rounds at 5 yards using a handheld light, three rounds per string. If your range prohibits low light, shoot it normally and run the light work dry at home tonight.

Service Pistol

You likely already own a technique from training. This is the month to keep it sharp.

Concealed Carry

The light lives on your body, not in the car. An unavailable light is not a light.

Carbine

Weapon light and handheld serve different purposes. Carry both if you can.

Optional Standard

AUX (when ready): search, identify, and hit inside four seconds.

Mind

A light makes you findable as well as effective. Use it deliberately, not constantly.

Your Daily Callout — By Archetype

♣ The Initiator Yours

Pick one technique and stop switching between them.

♠ The Scout Yours

The light changes what you can see and what you give away. Both matter.

♥ The Guardian Yours

Identifying correctly in the dark is what protects both the people behind you and the person in front of you.

♦ The Strategist Yours

Decide your low-light setup once, write it down, and then train it rather than reconsidering it monthly.

Coach's Note

Layer: run three strings with the light held away from your body.

Standards & Safety
The Four Rules — Every Rep, No Exceptions
  1. Treat every firearm as if it is loaded — always, no matter what you think you know.
  2. Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you have decided to fire.
  4. Be sure of your target — and everything beyond it.

Dry-fire: no ammunition in the room. Verify the firearm is clear — twice. Use a safe backstop. When you finish, say it out loud: “Dry fire is over.”
